A NEW PARK AND COMMUNITY CENTER COMING TO PORTERVILLE

A new community center and park is coming to the Porterville community! In 2021, the City of Porterville was awarded $7.8 million through the Proposition 68 Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program for the development of a new community center and park on Henderson Avenue and Fourth Street. The project has been in design and development, and at its meeting on February 21, 2023, the Porterville City Council was provided an update on the park and community center by RRM Design Group. RRM Design Group was the firm hired by the City for the design and specializes in park and civic projects. The presented draft conceptual design captured all the required features and will make the community center and park a first of its kind in the community.

The community center and park will be adjacent to the Rails-to-Trails corridor off of Henderson Avenue at Fourth Street. The 18,000 square-foot, multi-use community center will have a gymnasium, youth center, racquetball court and more. The park will consist of an ADA accessible playground, splash pad, challenge course, mini pitch soccer arena, pump track, fitness equipment, picnic shelters, public art wall, and more. The Porterville community was able to provide its input on what it wanted to see in the community center and park, which was collected by public in-person and virtual input meetings, surveys, and information and input gathering booths at special community events. The community was able to provide its input on preferences on design, safety, and recreation features of the park. The renderings presented did a fantastic job in capturing the required design features that the community requested.

The new multi-use center is a much-needed recreational facility for the community. The anticipated park and community center is set to be completed by 2025. The project cost will be comprised of State Prop 68 grant funds, State Clean California grant funds, federal American Rescue Plan Act funds, and local Measure R Alternative Transportation funds.
