WHERE DOES THE RACE START/ FINISH? In front of Porterville City Hall at 291 N. Main St
WHERE DO I PARK? Main Street will be closed to traffic, but you will have no trouble finding parking on a side street. There are public parking lots at Cleveland Ave. and Hockett St. or Thurman Ave. and 2nd St.
The race does take place before Porterville’s largest parade of the year (did you hear about the sky diver coming in at 10:00 AM?!). If you aren't staying for the festivities, we suggest parking on the side of Main Street (east or west) in the direction you plan to drive.
WHERE DO I COLLECT MY RACE PACKET? If you did not make it to one of our race packet pickups, just visit our booth in Centennial Park to grab your race gear.
WHAT IS THE RACE ROUTE? The race routes are posted online. There will also be street markings and signs throughout indicating the 10K and 5K routes.
IS THERE A PLACE TO LEAVE MY THINGS DURING THE RACE? Yes! Store your things at our Gear Check located at the Centennial Park gazebo. We will provide a bag for your loose items. Our staff will be monitoring the secure area
I KNOW I AM GOING TO WIN, WHERE CAN I PICK UP MY MEDAL? There will be an awards ceremony following the race in Centennial Park. Awards for the 5K Run will start at 8:30 AM, 10K Run at 8:45 AM, and 5K Walk at 9:00 AM. Live results will also be posted online- just follow the QR code on the back of your race bib or visit the Veterans Day Run website.
Awards can also be picked up in the Parks and Leisure office, at 15 E. Thurman Ave., Suite A, during regular business hours.
Dress in layers- it’s going to be cold. Try wearing a thick beanie and gloves, which you can also easily stuff in your pockets if you get hot.
Don’t stress- Lay out the clothes, shoes and gear you will wear the night before. Don't forget your bib number and make sure it is pinned to the front of your shirt.
Do eat- The morning of the race, you don't want to stuff yourself, but you also don't want to have a totally empty stomach. Eat a snack or light meal at least one hour prior to the start of the race. Don’t worry- we will have some healthy snacks available in the park after the race (while supplies last).
Don’t neglect hydration- You need to be hydrated for a race, regardless of the distance, and regardless of the weather. Many racers don't hydrate enough in colder weather. We will also have water stations on the course.
Bring your support team- Invite your friends and family members to come cheer you on. Ask them to stand near the finish line to make it easier to push yourself at the end.Have fun- Finishing the race and enjoying the experience are perfect goals for a first-timer or the most experienced. Give yourself a pat on the back and enjoy the thrill of crossing the finish line surrounded by your community.
