Parks & Leisure

Help your child learn how to swim the right way, right from the beginning! Our structured classes are divided by age and skill level and taught by Red Cross certified instructors at the City Pool in Murry Park.  Students will improve swimming skills, build confidence in the water and learn personal safety.  Classes are available for all ages and abilities beginning with water babies and going all the way through competitive strokes. 

Registration

May 1- June 9
Online or at the Heritage Center, 256 E. Orange Ave, 8AM-5:30PM.

June 12- July 24
Register at the City Pool ONLY during normal pool hours.

Registration will be taken on a first come, first served basis. Early registration is advised.

Lesson Schedule & Pricing

Classes meet Monday- Friday in two-week sessions.

Course Descriptions

  • Water Babies (Ages 1-2) - “Mommy & Me”.  Parent & child play together in the water. No real instruction provided.
  • Tiny Tots I (Ages 2-3) - Introduction to water.  Submerse head in water.
  • Tiny Tots II (Ages 3-4) - Increased emphasis on applicable water skills.  Front float, back float, front glide, submerse face 5 seconds.
  • Guppies (Ages 4 & up) - Introductory swimming skills.  Front float, back float, front glide, glide with kick, correct rhythmic breathing, one width with kick board, on width crawl stroke.
  • Beginners (Ages 5 & up) - Beginning swimming skills, 15 yard unassisted crawl stroke, floats,glides, turnovers, submerse face 10 seconds, kneeling and standing dive, one width with kickboard and breathing, one width crawl stroke.
  • Advanced Beginners - Crawl stroke techniques, two widths crawl stroke, one width elementary back stroke, 30 seconds tread water, 2 minutes survival float, 5 yard under water swim.
  • Intermediates - Focus on new competitive strokes, two widths elementary back stroke, one width breststroke, one width competitetive strokes, 30 seconds tread water, 10 yard under water swim.
  • Swimmers - Focus on distance, technique of all strokes including side stroke, gain endurance treading water.
  • Competitive Strokes - Learn to swim in a competitive setting. Includes starts, flip-turns, butterfly and endurance swimming.  Gain strength & speed through practice. 
  • Diving - Introduction to 1 meter springboard diving.
